Due to the complex nature of the human soul, there is a constant struggle between the two attributes which belong to both the angels and the devils. To coexist within society, humans are constantly changing their actions based on instinct. This instinct is never content due to many reasons such as dominance, power, position, statue, desire and ambition. These themes endlessly consume the mind and are never satiated. Whilst being depleted by all this egocentric behaviour one seeks inner peace. The constant struggle to find inner peace can be found within the HUM and has been in existence for hundreds of years and in its original form.
The measures presented within the HUM focuses on providing peace and tranquillity for both individuals and the wider society. It also puts explicit provisions in place to prevent and protect society from any turmoil. We can only reach an equitable understanding of universal rights and wrongs by evaluating all matters around our environment for the purpose of ultimately achieving peace and tranquillity. If this approach is not adopted during the process of evaluation, then not only will we risk not having any peace, but it also opens the doors for many misguided perceptions around the provisions put in place to protect it. The result could be that a system setup for peace could be interpreted incorrectly as a system setup for violence/terrorism.
As there is utmost harmony and moderation in all the creations within nature, any actions of violence are against this balance. Due to this balance within all creation, the system presented by the HUM is based around the protection and preservation of creations. It forbids all violence, tyranny, cruelty, injustice, theft, rape, obstruction of belief, killing and wastage.
Some themes present within HUM include;
- Parent/child interactions and emphasis that the utmost humility should be shown by children towards their parents.
- Advice to married couples to work towards amicable resolutions rather than disagreements.
- The unlawful death of any human is equal to the death of all humanity
HUM also discusses the provisions around responding to harm inflicted by others yet suggests to forgive first. It takes justice as the main constitution when suggesting formulas for achieving peace and prosperity amongst humans.
The HUM system does not allow for anybody to cause self-inflicted harm nor use anything that may cause them harm. Suicide is forbidden, disposing your belongings unnecessarily is forbidden. Gluttony is forbidden. A person should not allow punishment to oneself by neglecting their responsibilities as a human being.
Within this system, a person cannot kill, cannot steal, cannot cheat and cannot rape. It goes as far as to not even comment negatively to a person who he has helped and in turn make them feel indebted for the help they have recieved.
The HUM goes into particular detail around the rights of ones neighbours such as to not raise the height of his dwellings walls without the consent of his neighbour. If he/she is looking to sell his/her property he should offer it to his neighbours first. One should not look down on another, should not lie, gossip or allow for perjury. One should not cause discord in public nor act in a way that may cause harm to others. There should be no injustice between the husband and wife nor any injustices towards their children or orphans. Collectively when we look at this system of living, the core themes involve justice, balance, welfare and peace as opposed to violence, injustice and torture.
When we evaluate the rules and regulations around violence, it may seem harsh at first, however since the overarching goal is to ensure peace at a wider communal level, we begin to see the wisdom behind such statements.
The basis of violence stems from the untamed soul. This must be addressed and improved first thereby preventing the individual from allowing his violence to escalate. HUM prioritises these themes in order to block and prevent such actions.
The collective aim for these sanctions within HUM is to prohibit violence, establish a means for peace both on a personal and social level and to act with equality and fairness. At the same time, it is the constant struggle for the elimination against any threat leading to violence.
